Conquering Fatigue with Honesty and Openness
December 15th, 2007 · No Comments
The Oprah Magazine January 2008 issue has a very interesting section on conquering fatigue.
Author Penny Wrenn confesses to many “lethargic hours on the sofa,” consults a few experts, and determins that her inner voice, the Mommie Dearest who tells her she’s a lazy bum, is doing her no good. It would seem Ms. Wrenn depressed. As she’s a single writer confined to her home office much of the time, that would be no surprise.

The Oprah Magazine January 2008 issue has a very interesting section about self-esteem.
The main article, “The New & Improved Self-Esteem” by Aimee Lee Ball, retraces concepts from a very important book from 1995, Daniel Goleman’s Emotional Intelligence and promotes Social and Emotional Learning, SEL.

A good journalist is an angry journalist. America needs impassioned and powerful journalists like Dan Rather, because our Fourth Estate is in tatters.
Dan Rather’s lawsuit over being fired from CBS for his story about Bush’s service, or lack thereof, in the National Guard interests me from several perspectives.

Dear Abby Needs an Education in Anger
December 3rd, 2007 · No Comments
This Saturday Jeanne Phillips in her column Dear Abby advised a mother to hold onto her anger for the rest of her life. What is she thinking?
I suggest Ms. Phillips read Anger, The Misunderstood Emotion by Carol Tavris, Ph.D. Dr. Tavris wrote this book 20 years ago, but it may as well have been yesterday, the book is so fresh and cogent. In this book, Dr. Tavris takes apart our myths about anger—myths we still hold today—and sets the reader on the path to living anger-free.
I found Anger The Misunderstood Emotion referenced by Daniel Goleman in Emotional Intelligence, an absolute must-read.
